Flinders way is slowly gaining ground on the more well known Franklin street when it comes to good dining options in Manuka. Wasabi Teppanyaki Restaurant, located at The Terrace is one of the newer establishments making it happen, and finally bringing Japanese cuisine to this popular inner south dining destination. Following in the footsteps of its sister restaurant in Dickson, Wasabi delivers a quality experience for lovers of Japanese food on the southside. At the front of the dining roomat Wasabi, teppanyaki grills surrounded by communal benches proclaim the speciality here. But this restaurant does much more than practice this well known and loved food theatre. Sit away from the grills – in a more intimate setting – and order off the menu and you won’t be disappointed as the intricacies of this particular cuisine are well represented here. Spiny lobster tail, for example, is hibachi charcoal grilled, then tossed with yuzu citrus and garlic sauce and served on a wakamu seaweed salad; or the most tender eye fillet is stuffed with scallops and pan fried with a cracked black pepper glaze. The Sushi and sashimi platter is certainly a triumph of presentation: a medley of sashimi, nigiri sushi and maki sushi, all delicately enhanced with wasabi or soy sauce and vinegared ginger. Wasabi has indoor and outdoor seating, or if you want to avoid the bustle, an impressive looking private room is also available for group bookings
